Frans Wethly serves as senior counsel of Klavens Law Group, P.C. His practice focuses on counseling companies on the myriad issues they face, such as entity formation, debt and equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, strategic relationships, incentive compensation, intellectual property protection, software and technology licensing and all types of business contracts. For the firm’s nonprofit clients, Frans also advises on nonprofit corporate governance and regulatory matters.
Frans has over 20 years of experience working with businesses of many sizes and industries, including extensive experience in the renewable fuels, clean energy, clean technology and information technology sectors. He has worked in both outside and inside counsel roles to provide practical solutions to all facets of businesses, including executive teams, finance and administration, human resources, engineering, product management, sales, marketing, and professional services.
Prior to joining Klavens Law Group, Frans maintained a solo corporate law practice from 2009 to 2019 where he provided legal services to start-up and established companies. From 2004 to 2008 he served as in-house counsel to Egenera, Inc., a venture-backed information technology company in the Boston area. Prior to that, he worked as a corporate associate at Lucash, Gesmer & Updegrove, LLP (now Gesmer Updegrove LLP) from 2000 to 2004 and at Bingham Dana LLP (now Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP) from 1998 to 2000. From 1997 to 1998, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Paul J. Barbadoro at the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire.
Frans is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (BA 1993) and Boston College Law School (JD 1997, magna cum laude; articles editor, Law Review), and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. He has also earned a Certificate in Corporate Sustainability and Innovation and in Environmental Policy and International Development from Harvard University Extension School (2019/2020).
