Sarah Matthews

Sarah Matthews serves as senior counsel of Klavens Law Group, P.C. She brings an insider’s understanding of the business needs and legal challenges of cleantech companies and a diverse legal background to her work with renewable energy ventures.

Sarah has over 20 years of experience practicing with corporate legal departments and law firms in a broad range of practice areas including commercial real estate, debt and equity finance, commercial contracts (including EPC and O&M agreements), intellectual property licensing and protection, employment law and corporate formation and governance. Sarah handles the commercial real estate work for the firm’s clients including drafting and negotiating site control documents for project development work, such as long-term leases, easements and option agreements for solar, wind and other renewable energy projects, and identifying and strategizing to address complex title issues that arise during the development and acquisition of renewable energy projects. Sarah also represents the firm’s clients in obtaining debt financing for renewable energy projects.

Prior to joining Klavens Law Group, Sarah served from 2007 to 2010 as in-house general counsel of Qteros, Inc., a venture-backed, biofuels company headquartered in Marlborough, MA. She also served as general counsel of Gravity Graphics, Inc., a wholesale apparel company located in Brooklyn, New York, from its formation in 1986 through its profitable divestiture in 1998.  Sarah also practiced at the Martha’s Vineyard law firm Reynolds, Rappaport & Kaplan (1991-1999), and with several Washington, DC law firms.

Sarah is a graduate of the University of Michigan (BA 1981) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD 1986), and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
