Clean Energy Regulatory Counsel

We are seeking a highly motivated lawyer with at least 5 years of regulatory experience to join our multifaceted practice focused on clean energy, climate technology, social enterprise, and impact investment. Based in Boston’s Back Bay, Klavens Law Group is a boutique law firm founded in 2007 to support innovative ventures with a positive environmental or social impact. We have an excellent reputation for serving clients in the clean energy, cleantech and climate tech sectors and have played a significant role in the development of clean energy policy in Massachusetts. Other areas of focus include social enterprise and impact investment. We provide a comprehensive range of transactional and regulatory services to assist our clients with project development and finance, venture capital finance, and mergers and acquisitions. We also frequently serve as outside general counsel to a diverse group of for-profit and nonprofit entities helping them navigate a wide array of day-to-day legal needs.

Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- experience advising clean energy project developers and transaction counsel on state financial incentive programs, interconnection issues and energy market regulatory matters; familiarity with the Massachusetts SMART, net metering and Clean Peak Standard programs strongly preferred
- experience representing parties in adjudicatory proceedings and rulemakings before state public utility commissions and other governmental bodies
- excellent legal research, analytical, writing and advocacy skills
- strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and professionally with clients
- licensed to practice law in Massachusetts
- commitment to our hybrid work model (2-3 days per week in the office) strongly preferred
- experience advising project developers and transaction counsel on permitting issues for clean energy projects advantageous
